The appts. to impregnate web materials with a bitumen, e.g. woven glass or polyester or a polyester wadding, is assembled from a number of separate stations as building blocks for the whole unit. Each station has an impregnating trough for the fluid with an immersion roller with height adjustment. A fixed impregnation roller is above each trough, working with a pressure mangle roller. The impregnation trough or vessel has a recess to accommodate the immersion roller and catch aprons project below the impregnating roller. A central pneumatic cylinder gives height adjustment to the immersion roller with its piston linked to a lateral carrier with racks at each end to support the roller through two carriers. ADVANTAGE - The appts. prevents thermal distortion on the carrier material, and can be reset rapidly for various process conditions.
