An awning for protecting a sun bather against excessive exposure to the sun consists of a sheet (7) of transparent material mounted on a rectangular frame. The awning is supported on two opposite sides on balljoints (1) attached to posts (2). These joints (1) allow the awning to be positioned at any required angle by means of cords (6). The sheet (7) may be of any suitable colour or several sheets may be used. The material chosen prevents the passage of any harmful radiations and so enables the sunbather to achieve a tan without risk of sunburn or skin cancer. USE - Sunbathing.
