The inner linings for cars are produced by bringing together at least one covering layer and at least one filler and/or intermediate layer of absorbent thermally resistant fibrous material, either or both of these layers having been first covered with a thermoplastic powder; heat is applied to fuse the powder on to the surface of the material to which it was applied, the assembled layers are then cut into lengths, these are heated and pressed to form one single flat sheet. Pref. materials are polypropylene or polyethylene as the thermoplastic powder, polypropylene, polyethylene, glass mat, paper, open foams or polyurethane as filler mateirals, and similar materials for the covering. ADVANTAGE - The process and the plant used are very versatile in producing a wide variety of lining materials.
