SLEEVE ARRANGEMENT FOR A HERMETIC TERMINAL ASSEMBLY

The terminal assembly comprises a cup-shaped body with a bottom and a rim extending in one direction from the bottom, the bottom having one hole in it defined by an annular sealing lip projecting in the same direction as the rim. A current conducting pin extends through the hole, the pin having an outer end to extend externally of the housing to receive an electrical connection to a current source and an inner end to receive an electrical connection disposed in the housing. A sealing insulator bonds the pin to the inside surface of the lip. An electrically insulating extension sleeve surrounds the pin with an end portion cooperating with the hole defined by the annular lip to engage with and be bonded to the sealing insulator. The end portion of the extension sleeve and the end portion of the annular lip are sized and geometrically configured so that the outer wall of the extension sleeve abuttingly engages the end portion of the annular lip only along its outer periphery in line contact with it thereby localising any cracking of the sealing insulator which might occur from the abutting contact of the extension sleeve with the lip to a position remote from the conducting pin.
