[Class 73] [Also in Group XVII] In a modification of the method of making a box according to the parent Specification, a one piece box blank is brought into registering adhesive engagement with a group, e.g. of two or four strip material elements consisting of detached tabs, and the blank and strip material are formed into an unwrapped box. Blanks B are fed from stack SB to suction plunger 6 which pushes them downwardly between side and end folding members 7, 8 on to a pair of adhesive tabs T<1> on the stationary conveyer 5. Members 7, 8 may move inwardly to fold the sides and ends of the blank flat on to the top of the plunger 6. The tabs T<1> may be held in place on the conveyer by suction. After flattening the side flaps on to the tabs, the conveyer moves on and the assemblies are removed therefrom and completed as shown in Figs. 2, 3, either manually or on the form block of a machine of the type described in Specification 458,164, [Group XVII]. In a modification four short tabs may be employed one at each vertical edge of the box. In this modification the blanks fed to the conveyer are formed from strip material in situ. If a wrapper is to be subsequently applied to the unwrapped box shorter tabs may be employed which do not overlap the top of the box. |
