[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] A spring-casing is formed by bending interlocking flanges on a blank and subsequently forming intermediate bends. A blank 1, Fig. 9, is formed into a spring-casing, Fig. 13, in a machine with three heads 90, 96, 104 reciprocated in succession through a one revolution clutch from a main driving pulley. Dies 36, 38, 40, 42 are mounted on the heads and co-operate with dies 28, 30, 32, 34 on an inclined table. The blank is fed along the table by gravity and is positioned under the dies by pins 106, 118, 122, 126 and stops 108, 116, 120, 124. Operation. The blank 1 is placed by hand against stop 108 and pin 106 and the dies 36, 28 form an interlocking flange 12. A cam 114 withdraws the stop 108 and the blank slides down the table against a stop 116. Dies 38, 30 then form a flange 14, and a spring lip 208 on the stop 116 allows the blank to rise. The blank then slides over the lip 208 to a stop 120 and dies 40, 32 joggle the flange 14. Finally, a stop 124 positions the blank and dies 42, 34 form to shape the casing. A finger on a chain then ejects the casing. At each station, camactuated spring rods push the blank against the pins 118 &c.
