The magenta tape drive system has tape transferred between a pair of spools (4,5) both of which have direct drives. Located between the spools is a roller (8) drive by a motor (12) that transmits feed motion with the aid of a contact roller (9). Located between the roller and a second guide roller (10) is a tensioning roller (14). In order that the tension force is held uniform across the width of the tape, the tensioning roller is mounted on a pivot support. This allows tilting about an axis at right angles to its major axis.
