An article of furniture, such as a table is provided with telescopic legs to enable the height of the table top (8) to be adjusted. The outer part of each telescopic leg is mounted on a foot (3) whilst the inner part is attached to the table top (8). The inner and upper part slides on a roller bearing guide inside the lower and outer part. A tube (16) with internal teeth extends downwards from the table top (8). This tube (16) receives a rod (9) with retractable teeth attached to its upper end. These teeth are normally held in engagement with the teeth of the tube (16) by a spring. The teeth can be disengaged by a mechanism actuated by a pedal (13) to allow the table top to be raised or lowered. USE - Furniture of adjustable height.
