Protective guard which can be mounted on a stove. In a first position when the stove is in use, the protective guard prevents a child from touching the heated hot-plates or from spilling the hot contents of saucepans over itself. In the second position, the child is prevented from switching on the stove when it is not in use. To this end, the protective shield can be pushed into a gap in a supporting rail to which it can then be secured by means of a snap fastener. The protective guard is pushed into the first position from above and into the second position from below.
