A sprung shaft (3) moves along the central axis (21) of the tool through a collar (12) which itself moves into the body (20) of the device guided by pillars (13,14). Avacuum fed through the hollow body of shaft (3) holds the electronic component, in the retention area (1). As the shaft (3) is depressed the collar is engaged. Rollers (24) acting on shafts move the jaws together as they move over cams (15,16). The device leads are set to a predefined shape allowing the device to be inserted in a base. Different bases may be used. USE - For placing multi-leaded electronic components in sockets.
