PURPOSE:To prevent a reduction in electrolyte quantity by giving water repellency to a negative electrode plate surface and containing a surface layer conductive material. CONSTITUTION:For example, a paste active material is charged in a Pb-Ca alloy grid body, and a paste active material containing carbon powder is charged thereon to give repellency to the surface, whereby a film is not formed by an electrolyte, and the negative electrode plate is easy to contact with oxygen gas, resulting in a satisfactory absorption of oxygen gas. As an electrolytic holding body interposed between a positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate, for example, a non-woven fabric mainly consisting of glass fiber and containing polypropylene fine fiber is used. The conductive material contained in the negative electrode plate is preferably carbon fine powder. Hence, for the charge by a large current within a short time, the oxygen gas absorption in the negative electrode plate is satisfactory conducted, the charge is efficiently proceeded, and a reduction in electrolyte quantity by electrolysis of water is suppressed. |
