The books (10) are, first of all, introduced one by one between the jaws (31 and 32) of the handling members, followed by creating a partial vacuum in the suckers (33 and 34). The carousel (turret), then continuing its even rotation, gives rise to the cutting, at a predetermined height, by means of the circular saw (6) located above the front conveyor belt (4), so that the binding (13), thus separated from the rest of the document, can be discharged straightaway by the said belt. As soon as the handling member (30) reaches the station (C), the control system for the machine makes the jaws (31 and 32) move apart, which gives rise to progressive falling of the pages (14) of the book (10) onto the rear conveyor belt (5). As soon as the handling member (30) is entirely located, once again, above the front conveyor belt (4), the control system of the machine causes the hard backs (boarded covers) (11 and 12) to fall onto the said belt (4) which discharges them. <IMAGE>
