Inorganic fibre compositions capable of degrading in contact with a physiological medium. Advantageous compositions include the following constituents in the weight proportions defined below: SiO2 37 to 55 % Al2O3 7.5 to 15 % CaO 7 to 40 % MgO 4 to 12 % P2O5 0.5 to 7 % Fe2O3 1 to 20 % (total iron expressed in this form) as well as the oxides Na2O, K2O, TiO2, the sum of the latter remaining lower than 10 %.
