Protective coating for a metal article made of titanium alloy, consisting of a composite consisting of a titanium alloy matrix filled with TiC or TiN particles. TiC makes it possible to obtain a resistance to degradation, and the matrix has ductility, corrosion resistance and tenacity properties permitting good behaviour of the composite. Process for depositing a coating on an article made of titanium alloy in which a mixture of titanium alloy powder and of TiC or TiN particles is sintered to form a small plate which is then brazed or welded onto the article.
