The invention concerns an anti-lock braking system for motor vehicles with a braking pressure sensor (6) to which a wheel brake (1) is connected at least via a main pressure line (5), with a hydraulic auxiliary pressure pump (2) connected to the auxiliary pressure line (12) and wheel sensors and electronic circuits for determining the rotational behaviour of the wheel and for generating electrical braking pressure control signals which control the electromagnetically actuatable inlet valves (7) and outlet valves (14) inserted in the pressure lines for skid control. A pressure fluid reservoir (19) connected to a pressure limiting valve (3) may be controlled dependently upon the hydraulic pressure in the wheel brake (1). It is thus possible to regulate the reservoir pressure or the volume in a closed hydraulic system as required, dependently upon the wheel braking pressure.
