PURPOSE:To provide the subject cockroach-controlling agent containing an adduct salt between an alkyldimethylamine and boric acid or its hydrate as the active component, having a long-term persistent effect and having a high safety to mammals. CONSTITUTION:A cockroach-controlling agent containing an adduct salt between a compound of the formula (R is 8-20C alkyl) and boric acid and/or its hydrate as the active component. The abovementioned adduct salt or its hydrate can be obtained, e.g. by reacting a compound (e.g. octyldimethylamine) of the formula with a boric acid (e.g. orthoboric acid, metaboric acid, diboric acid or tetraboric acid) in a solvent such as water or a conventional organic solvent at a temperature within a range of 0 deg.C-the boiling point of the solvent. This cockroach-controlling agent may contain a binder such as polyvinyl alcohol or an acryl resin on the purpose of improvement of sustained release properties, washing resistance, etc. The above-mentioned cockroach-controlling agent can directly be applied to a floor, etc., or can be used in a form of a rug produced by impregnating a paper, a cloth, a plate, etc., with the agent. |
