Strip material, wound in a coil, is threaded in a straightening machine or a machine tool by a displaceable arm with a gripping roller which can be moved relative to a parallel roller to pinch the strip. Both rollers can be swivelled around a common axis parallel to the rollers. Pref. appts. tp thread the strip wound to a coil on the mobile reel in the machine, has an arm with a gripping roller which can be turned around the axis. A second roller on a slideable arm can be moved relative to the first by a power cylinder to pinch the strip, and raise it to the feeding position ahead of the intake slot of the machine. A hold-down lever prevents slackening of the strip.
