PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a perfume material under mild reaction conditions, by reacting a chlorinated olefin compound with an alkali metal cyanide in the presence of a quaternary ammonium iodide in the two- phase system of an organic phase and an aqueous phase. CONSTITUTION:A compound expressed by formula I (R is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl or phenyl which may be substituted) is reacted with an alkali metal cyanide in the presence of a quaternary ammonium iodide in an amount of 0.01-0.1 equivalent based on the compound expressed by formula I in the two- phase system of an organic phase and an aqueous phase (preferably saturated with a cyanide) at 90-110 deg.C to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula II (either one of X<1> and X<2> is H, and the other together with Y forms a single bond). The compound expressed by formula I is obtained by reacting an olefinic compound expressed by formula III with (i) tert-butyl hypochlorite, (ii) hypochlorous acid in the two-phase system of an organic solvent immiscible with water and water or (iii) with isocyanuric chloride. |
