The measuring device (30) with at least one contactless sensor (32, 33, 33') for adjusting the gap (14) between the working rollers (10, 12) of a rolling or roller casting installation emits signals for process monitoring and control. A set of rollers has reduced body diameters with coaxial measuring surfaces (16, 18, 16', 18') in the region of the rolling plane (A) on the faces of the working (10, 12) and/or backing rollers (20, 22). Between the reduced body diameters of the working rollers (10, 12) there is a measuring head (34) with a double sensor, or between the reduced body diameters of the backing rollers (20, 22) and/or the working rollers (10, 12) there are sensors (32, 33, 33') directed towards at least one measuring surface (16, 18, 16', 18'). The measuring head (34) or continuous ring (35) can be removed or dismantled during the rolling or roller casting operation. The sum of the two distances (a, b) of the measuring surfaces (16, 18, 16', 18') of the appropriate sensor areas (56) is continuously measured and compared with a set value by a process computer. If the set value is exceeded by more than an adjustable value, actuators are triggered to adjust the roller gap (14). This continuously compensates for any out-of-roundness in the working rollers (10, 12). |
