A track control circuit for a recording and/or playback device contactlessly scanning a recording substrate. The track control circuit of a CD player is fitted, for example, with a coarse drive (M2, SP) and a fine drive arranged thereon. In order to be able to guide the light beam (L) scanning the data along the data tracks on the disc (CD), the coarse drive (M2) is switched on from time to time. It does, however, generate mechanical oscillations which can result in the loss of the track and even of the focus if there are at the same time faults, e.g. scratches or fingerprints, on the CD. To increase scanning reliability, the track error signal (TE) or the focus error signal (FE) is tested for errors, e.g. by a detector (H1). If the detector (H1) finds an error the coarse drive (M2) remains out of action. CD players, video disc players, DRAW disc players and magneto-optical devices. |
