PURPOSE:To form a spiral groove easily on the sliding face of sliding material. CONSTITUTION:Ion of nitrogen, argon, or the like is implanted, at the specified acceleration voltage, into one end face of a sliding material body 2 formed of Al2O3 quality material to form an ion implanted part. Masking is applied to this ion implanted part in such a way that an unmasked parts remains in the spiral state. Shot blasting is then applied to the unmasked part so as to remove the ion implanted part in the unmasked part and thereby to form a spiral groove 4 in one end face of the sliding material body 2. Heat treatment is further applied, at the specified temperature, to the sliding material body 2 so that the unremoved ion implanted part is crystallized again to form a sliding face 3 for the manufacture of Al2O3 group sliding material 1. |
