The subject of the present invention is a section constructed by cold-forming a strip of steel, particularly for a road or rail transport-vehicle side rail, of the type comprising a web (1) and at least one flange (2) perpendicular to the web. The thickness of the flange (2) is increased by cold-folding a portion of this flange through 180@ so as to increase the moment of inertia of the cross-section of the section with respect to its linear mass (mass per unit length). <IMAGE>
