The outer glass of the lamp is coloured to match the vehicle styling e.g. smoked glass. The operating colour of the lamp is derived from an inner colour filter (16) to be visible when the lamp (10) is switched on. To compensate for loss in transmission due to the outer smoked glass the inner filter has a multi-lens surface to focus light between ribs (15) on the inside face of the outer filter. The ribs are thinner than their spacing and a simple pattern has lines of ribs corresp. to longitudinal lens patterns. The same outer filter covers several compartments inside which different colour filters are positioned. ADVANTAGE - Improved intensity signal lamp, improved safety.
