<p>Serial printing apparatus for printing an image on a substrate in strips including a cartridge. The cartridge includes an imaging surface for forming an electrostatic strip image thereon, apparatus for developing the electrostatic strip image with charged toner to form a developed strip image and intermediate transfer apparatus for receiving the developed strip image from the imaging surface. The serial printing apparatus also includes image transfer apparatus for transferring the developed strip image from the intermediate transfer member to the substrate including apparatus for causing operative engagement between the intermediate transfer apparatus and the substrate and apparatus for causing relative motion of the cartridge and the substrate in a first direction whereby a strip of the image is transferred thereto and apparatus for causing relative motion between the cartridge and the substrate in a direction substantially transverse to the first direction.</p> |
