The device comprises a titanium dioxide oxygen probe (1) whose output signal switches between two levels corresponding to a mixture which is rich or lean in fuel respectively, and means (6) for correcting the influence of the temperature of the probe on its output signal. According to the invention, the said correction means (6) control means (2) for heating the probe so as to regulate the temperature of the probe in a closed loop, the feedback chain of the loop being supplied by at least one of the two levels of the output signal of the probe.
