The subject of the present invention is a device for feeding and for silent expansion, the main application of which is the diffusion of air or of gas into a protective garment for internal ventilation of the latter. The device for feeding a gas leaving the orifice (1) of an inlet pipe (4) under pressure and emerges into a volume (2) at a lower pressure. This device includes a block (3) of a foamed material with semi-open cells, surrounding the said orifice (1) in a continuous manner in all directions and in close contact with the inlet pipe (4), which orifice (1) is situated in a zone surrounding the centre of the block (3) such that the gas diffusing into the latter is distributed uniformly as best possible in all directions in order to emerge in the said volume (2) at a practically identical speed over the entire peripheral surface of the block (3). <IMAGE>
