PURPOSE:To obtain an amine producing catalyst having high activity and high selectivity by supporting a catalyst compsn. specified in its atomic ratio on a carrier selected from oxides and hydroxides of aluminum, silicon, titanium or the like, zeolite and silica-add alumina. CONSTITUTION:A carrier selected from oxides and hydroxides of aluminum, silicon, titanium, zirconium, magnesium and iron, zeolite and silica-alumina is suspended in an aqueous medium to be reacted with a water-soluble copper salt, a water-soluble iron salt and a water-soluble alkali substance to precipitate a copper compound and an iron compound on the carrier. Subsequently, a water- soluble aluminum salt is reacted with the copper and iron compounds to precipitate an aluminum compound. This precipitate is mixed with an alkali metal salt to be baked to obtain a catalyst wherein the atomic ratio of Cu/Fe/ Al/(alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal)/Zn is specified to 1/0.4-2.5/0.5-5.0/0-0.4/0-1.0. Alcohol, aldehyde and amine are reacted using this catalyst to produce tertiary amine. |
