This invention concerns the band dividing method of image sub- band coder and decoder or odd-band of time axis using band- compressed IIR filter for HD (hght definition) television and A (advance) television etc.. This comprises FIR filter part (110) dividing by band dividing number (17) for input image signal, 1 decimeter (120) part having the sample value of each band under its output decimation of FTR filter part (110), interleaving part (130) inserting midband for each band and reversing phase for even band at output of 1 decimeter part (120), adding part (140) calculating each band output of inteleaving part (130), IIR filter (150) dividing band by output filtering of adding part (140), 2 decimation part (160) decimating each band signal of IIR filter part (150), delay circuit (170) for delay filter part (170), multiplexer for serial transfering and image sub band cooler of time axis using IIR filter.
