The cutting appts. has a cutter to cut the workpiece, held by a support during cutting. A movement system directs the cutter along a given path between a cutting position where the cutter is held by the support, and a retracted inoperative position. A detector system continuously registers the cutter movement within a given section of its movement path, to give out signals to show that the cutter is moving along the path section. USE/ADVANTAGE - The cutter is for slitting a hole in fabric, on an underlay, for stitching, such as a buttonhole. As the movement of the cutting blade is continuously monitored, it can be controlled with high accuracy during the cutting action.
