The content identifying device has an outlet valve (10) with a valve body (12), a handle (18,26) for operating the latter (12) and a releasable connector (20) for fastening the handle (18,26) to the valve (12). A code carrying device (30,32,34) which can be read by an external reader (56) is connected to the handle (18,26). By releasing the handle (18,26) from the valve body (12) the code carrier (30,32,34) is destroyed to prevent unauthorised or uncontrolled removal of the handle (18,26) from the valve (12). USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. for identifying the contents or condition of industrial gas bottles or bottles used in hospitals for oxygen or anaesthetic gas. Safely prevents unauthorised access or removal of identity tag.
