The stem comprises a tubular, rigid valve core holder, and a rigid mounting sleeve in which the holder is telescopically slidable. A fixture supports the sleeve and is adapted to be secured airtightly about the valve aperture of a wheel rim. A seal provides a resilient, air-tight connection between the fixture and the holder. The fixture comprises an elastomeric hollow body having a cylindrical neck adapted to fit tightly within the rim aperture and a retaining head. The seal comprises an annular diaphragm integral with the body and bonded to the core holder.
