The barrier consists of at least one timber rail (1a,1b) attached to vertical posts (2) by a connecting piece (3). Each rail has a groove in its surface adjacent to the end, and the connecting piece has a curved section (8a,8b) at each end which fits into the groove and is held in place by a bolt (9) passing through the rail. The curved sections of the connecting piece have convex surfaces facing the rail which can be in the shape of an arc of a circle, and the inner surface of each groove is of similar shape. The bolts (9a) fixing the connecting piece to the rail is situated in the horizontal plane and at an angle of 45-65 degrees to the rail's lengthwise axis. The central portion of the connecting piece is fixed to the post by a screw and by a transverse bolt (19) passing through the post and the two sides of the connecting piece. ADVANTAGE - Simpler assembly, without need for special precision.
