The system controls a VDU (BG) and its screen (BS) by a variable brightness and contrast signal for image brightness and contrast setting on the screen. In front of the image controller (BSS) a control matrix (SM) is coupled, to which a photosensitive sensor circuit (SS) is allocated. The sensor circuit converts an ambient luminance value (Iu) into an electric luminance value (Iuel). The matrix generates a brightness (Hs) and contrast signal (Ks), dependent on the electric luminance value, for the screen controller, taking into account ergonomic factors.
