Image data is generated by a computer and is expanded into a bit map form. With colour displays the display has 3 or 4 bit maps generated in parallel. The multi bit maps (1C, 1M, 1Y, 1C) are generated for the colours. Single bit image data ia also generated (3C, 3M, 3Y, 3C). The data is received by synthesiser stages (7B, 7M, 7Y, 7C) for the colours of cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Outputs are generated for use by the multi-colour printer that have the required contrast levels. USE/ADVANTAGE - Allows contrast levels to be controlled.
