PURPOSE:To obtain an alpha- or beta-glycoside by reacting a hexopyranose 1-carbonic acid ester derivative in a state of solution with a hydroxy compound, thereby stereoselectively glycosylating the derivative under mild condition. CONSTITUTION:A hexopyranose 1-carbonic acid ester derivative dissolved in ethyl ether, etc., is made to react with a hydroxy compound (preferably a sugar derivative) in the presence of an acid catalyst preferably at -20 to -40 deg.C to effect the objective glycosylation reaction. The process can selectively produce a beta-glycoside at a reaction temperature of <=0 deg.C and an alpha-glycoside at a reaction temperature of >=0 deg.C. |
