An half tone image is represented by 3 dimensional data in which each element is represented by `x' and `y' coordinates and the brightness value is given along the `Z' axis. Each element (pixel) is obtained by scanning and the brightness value is in 8 bit value form. The 3 dimensional representation obtained is then subjected to a curve fitting process to generate a surface that touches the peaks of the brightness values eg P11 to P44. The generated values can then be recorded. USE/ADVANTAGE - Optimal control when different recording units have different resolutions.
