X-ray image amplifier for various display and recording methods - suitable for use with charge coupled device T.V. imaging and having high resolution and low image distortion

An X-ray image amplifier having housing (3), entrance shield (4), photo-cathode (5), exit shield (11), accelerating and focussing electrodes (6-8), anode (9) to which the acceleration voltage is applied, and a high tension voltage generator (2) connected to the electrodes (5-9). The anode (9) has a net electrode (10). The exit shield (11) is held at a considerably lower voltage by the voltage generator (2) than the anode (9). The exit shield (11) is surrounded by an exit electrode (12) which is conically centred on the anode (9) while having a greater diameter. The facing surfaces of anode (9) and exit electrode (12) are parallel. USE - The X-ray image amplifier is intended as a development of curved technology. It can be used with conventional light sensitive films or with other forms of image processing such as thin rear-face charge coupled devices and video image display. ADVANTAGE - The braking effect on the electrodes in the space between the anode and the exit shield gives a favourable electron image. The high acceleration voltage gives good image resolution. The variable braking voltage means that the image amplifier can be used with a number of image converter devices and recording methods without adaption. Hence ease of use and cost advantages are obtained.
