Sterile packaging esp. of suture material - in package having gas permeable layer made gas-tight after sterilisation

Sterile packaging, esp. of surgical suture materials, is carried out using, for at least a section of the packaging, a gas-permeable layer, through which sterilising gas is introduced, the novelty being that the gas-permeable layer is made gastight after the sterilisation process. Packaging, esp. for surgical suture material, has an inner packaging for receiving the material within an outer packaging which has a gas-permeable layer at lest at one section, the novelty being that the inner packaging (1) has opt. at least a gas-permeable layer section (4) and that the gas-permeable layer (7) of the outer packaging (5) is made gastight. The gas-permeable layer (7) is made gastight by applying a gas-impermeable layer (8) which is sealed w.r.t. the outer packaging (5) by a sealed seam (9) along the edge. Alternatively, the gas-permeable layer (7) is made gastight by dip or vapour coating with a gastight film-forming material or by shrinking on a gastight foil. ADVANTAGE - The packaging process is simple and economical and protects the suture material against moisture absorption or moisture loss.
