The method is based on detection of conserved sequences within a gp. (A) of genomes which it is wished to amplify, which present sufficient degree of variation from a gp. (B) of sequences whose amplification is to be avoided. The sequences obtained are used to synthesise oligonucleotides capable of establishing a stable hybridisation, and therefore permitting the specific amplification of the genomes of group (A).
