Method and apparatus for reducing the particle size of solids, particularly of solids such as drill cuttings, recovered from a subterranean wellbore. The solids are pumped to induce a pressure and velocity to the solids. The solids are passed through a choke to further increase the velocity of the solids, and are caused to impinge a surface to abruptly retard movement of the solids to thereby induce breakage or grinding thereof.
