In an entertainment subscription system (fig. 3) in which content can be transmitted to both a Set Top Box 14 (via a Public Switched Telephone Network 12 and satellite link 18) and a mobile device 32 (via an internet 28 and Mobile Acces Network 30), a content provider 10 blocks content to the set top box while mobile transmissions are being viewed in order to prevent reproduction of the streamed content. Control signals and user authentication data are sent via the PSTN to the STB to enable or disable the decryption of the content stream, allowing the source itself to prevent duplication (which is possible in fig. 2) and requiring no permanent broadband internet connection at the user's home. Streams for each route are encoded in different formats 42, and users can command that the content be switched themselves. |
