An electric power supply arrangement has a connection to mains power source 12 and one or more battery power source 10. Control means are provided to determine which power source is connected to a consuming device. The battery may be charged from one or more generating sources, such as a solar panel 24, wind turbine 26, or a bicycle training machine 28. The battery may be removable so that it can be used to power a light in a caravan, for example. A monitoring arrangement including a computer 32 is also provided which may monitor the duration and times that the battery 10 or mains 12 has been supplying power, the amount of power supplied by the mains 12, the amount of power supplied to or from the battery 10, and the battery 10 state of charge. The computer 32 may be used to give warnings or low battery charge, allow battery supply only when battery charge is above a certain threshold, operate switches 14, 16 to select the power source, cause mains charging of the battery, and other automatic controls. |
