The present invention relates to a separating apparatus for separating particles from a fluid flow. Particularly, but not exclusively, the invention relates to a vacuum cleaner having such a separating apparatus for removing dust particles from a dust laden airstream. The separating apparatus comprises a first cyclonic cleaning stage 20, a second cyclonic cleaning stage 22 arranged downstream from the first cyclonic cleaning stage 20, and a filter 70 arranged downstream from the second cyclonic cleaning stage 22, wherein the filter 70 is at least partially surrounded by the first cyclonic cleaning stage 22. The filter 70 is preferably elongate in shape and may be formed from a plastics material such as polyurethane foam or from an organic material such as charcoal. The filter 70 can be a sock filter or an electrostatic filter which is connected to a high voltage power supply which is generated by a PCB. The second cyclonic cleaning stage 22 is preferably a plurality of cyclones arranged in parallel. The first cyclonic stage 20, the second cyclonic stage 22 and the filter 70 may be concentrically arranged. |
