The arrangement comprises providing a non-alphanumeric indicator 20 which acts to indicate the speed limit of a road on a supporting member. The support member preferably comprises a lamp post 12 and the non-alphanumerical indicator preferably comprises coloured paint, with different colours being used to indicate different speed limits. The paint is preferably provided as a band 22 extending around the lamp post.
