[Class 120 (i)] The fermentation process for the preparation of paper pulp from bagasse and like fibres described in Specification 497,960, which includes impregnating the fibres with a liquor containing bacteria cultured on or derived from the cellulosic material and a nutrient therefor, is modified for the treatment of fibres having a high content of nutrient by the step of first leaching out the excess nutrient.
