An apparatus for performing a call in a portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to listen to conversation contents stored correspondingly to each caller after the call is terminated. A memory unit(120) stores one or more caller numbers. A controller(100) determines whether the caller number of a received call exists in a memory unit. If the caller number does not exist, the controller performs the control for storing the conversation contents for a preset time after call connection in the memory unit.
