PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk drive and a tracking control method which maintains high precision tracking control even when the phase of a side beam changes against a main beam due to environmental temperature change and the recording or reproducing positions on the optical disk. SOLUTION: This optical disk drive has subtractors 113, 114 to generate first and second tracking error signals from the main beam and the side beam separated from the emitted light, a low-pass filter 120 to pass a predetermined frequency or lower of the second tracking error signals to obtain a third tracking error signals, and a CPU119 to subtract the second tracking error signals from the first tracking error signals to generate tracking error signals. When the tracking error signals do not exceed a predetermined amplitude, the CPU119 generates the tracking error signals by using the third tracking error signals instead of the second tracking error signals.
