SOLUTION: In the process of manufacturing a glass fine particle deposited body 16, air feeding and discharging in a reaction chamber 11 is carried out in accordance with pressure changes in the reaction chamber 11 where the glass fine particle deposited body 16 is manufactured, the pressure in the reaction chamber 11 can be stabilized. Thereby, the additive amount of Ge is stabilized, and a high-quality glass fine particle deposited body 16 having desired refractive index distribution can be manufactured.
