<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a load detector and load detecting method for easily detecting a load acting on a distal end of a small linear object. <P>SOLUTION: In this method of detecting a load, a load Fi required for inserting a flexible linear object 2 into the inlet of a hollow tube 1 inserted in a bent tube in a human body is detected, the image of the hollow tube 1 or the linear object 2 is photographed, and the degree of bending of the hollow tube 1 or the linear object 2 is detected from the image.
