PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly perform error analysis, a test or the like in a system where data are transmitted over a plurality of lanes and error expansion processing is performed. SOLUTION: A 64B/66B converter 130 in a PCS processing unit of a transmitter on the basis of 10GBASE-R PHY performs 64B/66B conversion for each block consisting of two columns to data which are transmitted over four lanes. In the conversion, when a control signal inputted via a control signal input terminal 162 indicates a normal operation mode, and when an error code is detected from a block for conversion by an error detector 150, the error expansion processing that replaces all the data of 8 byte in the block with an error code /E/ is performed. On the other hand, when the control signal indicates an analysis operation mode, the error expansion processing is not performed even if the error code is detected by the error detector 150.
